Bio

The Freys have been performing with the lead musical styling of Daniel Frey on lead vocals and guitar, and the occasional banjo, ukelele, accordion, or piano in the mix for a decade. The Freys have released three albums, the self-titled first album, The Freys, the second release, People are Sacred, and their most recent addition, Here: Inner Silence. (Read more on our Music page.) Daniel’s brother Sam Frey performs on the stand-up bass, and adds harmony vocals to the Frey brothers’ arrangements. Cousin Adam Frey holds down drum kit percussion.

The Freys have been performing in Northern California venues, pleasing their loyal following of fans that they’re back!

Daniel Frey began playing music as a young child at the Waldorf School of Mendocino County. By the age of 8 he was composing simple songs, and learning instruments of all kinds. Always happy to try on new sounds, Daniel plays with guitars, banjos, mandolins, ukeleles, keys, and percussion instruments; you can listen to his musical menagerie on our recorded albums. Although Daniel won’t take credit for the songs that our band performs, he has written all our material (with help from the band to really bring the words to life), and he continues to birth beautiful music with his lead vocals, guitar riffs, and harmonica additions.

Samuel Frey took up the bass as a youth and hasn’t stopped since he first started strumming to the deep, rich sounds of the stand-up, acoustic beauty. When Sam isn’t jamming with the Freys at home, he spends his time touring with artists from Shimshai to the Human Revolution. He also performs electric bass with another band, showcasing his cousins and musical kin, “The Voodoo Medicine Show.”

Adam Frey has been playing the drums since childhood. His beats add rich texture to the band’s sound, flowing from reggae drops to upbeat world shake downs.

The Freys call home the hills of Mendocino County on an extraordinary family community: Frey Vineyards Organic Winery and Farm. Much of the food is sustainably grown in between the vine rows and in surrounding orchards, gardens and pastures including: potatoes, vegetables, fruits and dairy. Any visitor to Frey Vineyards will see long rows of solar panels, flow form fountains, forests, bird songs, and ponds. And if you’re lucky, you’ll hear the musical musings of the barefoot Frey musicians.
